April 9th, 2020 - The Lord washes the disciples feet

On the night Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, he washed his disciples feet. Jesus told his disciples that a servant is not greater than his master. Therefore, they should do likewise.

Jesus said to them, “Where I am going, you can not come, but you will come later”. Peter asked why he could not come now. Peter would lay down his life for Jesus. Jesus told him that he would deny him three time before the night would be over.

Jesus told his disciples on of the greatest sources of comfort found in the scriptures. He told them to not let their emotions take control. He told them to not let their hearts be troubled. If they believed in God, Believe in him. The Lord was going to prepare a place for them. A place that was permeant and forever. The reason the Lord was leaving was to prepare the place by the way of the cross.

April 7th , 2020 - Tuesday - Authority is Challenged

What happened on Tuesday during the Holy Week?

After lodging in Bethany, Jesus returns to Jerusalem where he taught in the temple. The chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching and asked him by what authority was he doing such things.

Jesus asked them by what authority that John taught by, his baptism, where did it come? The chief priests did not have an answer since any answer they came up with appeared to support Jesus having authority to do the things that he was doing. So, they gave no answer with the response of “we do not know”. Then, Jesus said that he would not tell them by what authority he did these things.

Then, Jesus continued to teach. He taught the parable of the two sons, the parable of the tenants, the parable of the wedding feast and taught the Sadducees about the resurrection.

April 6th 2020 - Jesus Cleanses the Temple

What happened on Monday during the week of Easter. ?

Jesus entered the Temple and turned over the tables of the money-changes and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers”.

And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David” they were indignant, and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

“Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies, you have prepared praise”?

Palm Sunday - Look, your King is coming

While we are not scheduled to have services tomorrow morning, Sunday, April 5th, Jack will be at the church to collective anyone’s offering from 11:00am to 11:30am. I want to thank everyone for their understanding during these times. I am praying for you and your family. I look forward to the time that we can meet again at Dickson.

We are planning to postpone the Easter egg hunt until after Easter. Please continue to collect the eggs. We should make out like a bandit on these supplies when they are discounted after Easter. We will postpone our Easter Service also. Just like you can not cancel Christmas, you can not cancel Easter, but you can postpone our gathering until a later time.

May the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and protect you all.

March 29th, 2020

While we are not having service this Sunday morning, Jack will be at the church from 11:00am to 11:30am for anyone who would like to drop off an offering check.

As many of you might know, there was a water leak under the church parking lot last week. It probably would be in question if we could have had a service last week even if there was not the current health issue.

Also, next week is Palm Sunday and the following week is Easter Sunday. Right now, we have not postponed the Easter egg hunt. So, we should continue to collect candy and eggs. If we postpone the hunt, it would be difficult to gather eggs and candy related to Easter after the Holiday.

I hope everyone is doing well. I pray that the Lord will richly bless you and yours during this time. Until we are able to meeting again, may our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Thank You - You made today special for several children

I want to thank everyone who help make our Easter egg hunt successful. Also, I want to thank everyone who came and participated. Also, I want to thank all the workers who gave their time and energy to make Jesus known. We could not have done it without you. We had about 35 kids and they each got about 50 eggs and a chocolate surprise. I remember the Easter egg hunts that I participated in as a kid as if it were yesterday. My brother and I won an Easter bunny for getting the most eggs. It still brings a smile to my face to think about it. Again, thank you for all that you do. Pastor James.

"You give them something to eat".

The time was late in the day, and the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Send the crowd away so that they may go into the villages to find food and lodging because we are in a desolate place.”

Jesus told his disciples “you give them something to eat”. The disciples said to Jesus that they had no more than five loaves and two fishes. Jesus instructed the crowd to sit down in groups of fifty. Jesus spoke a blessing over the loaves and fishes. Everyone ate and they were satisfied.

While the disciples were in a desolate place without sufficient food or money to feed the multitude, they overlooked the provider of all things. Jesus had just sent his disciples out to proclaim the gospel, to cure diseases, to heal the sick, and to cast out demons. He told them to take no provision for food or money.

Now, when Jesus asked his disciples to feed the crowd. Their response was that they did not have enough food, “just five loaves and two fishes, - unless we go buy food for all these people”. They felt they did not have the means to accomplish what Jesus asked of them.

We must remember that His grace is sufficient. He has already provided all that is needed. Sometimes, we are waiting on the Lord to provide more when He has already provided what we need. He has already equipped us for the daunting ministry that lies before us. In our weakness, He is made strong. The Lord will say to us one day, “give them something to eat” and then we must remember that what we have is sufficient.

Following instead of Resisting

Acts 7:51–52 (MEV) 51 *“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. 52 *Which of the prophets have your fathers not persecuted? They have even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers,

Stephen said that the Pharisees always resisted the Holy Spirit. I wonder what resisting the Holy Spirit would look like today. Have you ever resisted the Holy Spirit? I would suggest that we resist the Holy Spirit every day. We live our lives on our own terms and portray our selves as being in total submission to God. While I probably do not rise to the level of the Pharisees’ resisting the Holy Spirit, I know that resisting the Holy Spirit is easier than following the Holy Spirit.

Fan the Flame

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…”1 Peter 4:10 ESV

Do you realize you have a special gift from God? You bring something to the body of Christ that no one else can. You may not be aware of this gift from God, but if you are a born again believer, it is there. Ask a friend you trust what they think are your strengths and try to remember the moments throughout your life when you felt you made a difference. Pray that God would open your eyes to the gift He has given you by His Holy Spirit. I guarantee whatever that gift is, you might also run in to your weakness. It seems often the very gift we should be using for God’s people is the point at which Satan tries to attack us with his lies. If you are gifted to sing, he will tell you no one wants to hear it. If you are an encourager, he’ll tell you no one likes you. If you are a teacher, sure enough someone will definitely quit your class. Pray with your family and church body that God would “stir up” the gifts he has given to all of us. Remember what Timothy wrote:

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands…”

Bearing Fruit

The words of John the Baptist when he called the crowd that came out to hear him.  John called them "a brood of vipers".  "Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come"?  "Bear fruits in keeping with repentance".

The crowd asked him "what then shall we do"?  John answered and said, If you have two tunics, share with him who has none.  John told the soldiers "to be content with your wages." John told the tax collectors to "not collect more than you are authorized to do".

What would John say today?

Unless the Lord Builds

Psalm 127:1 (MEV)1 *Except the Lord build the house, those who build labor in vain; except the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Have you ever tried to build anything?  From my own experience, a building project can be difficult.  It is easy to tear something down; but difficult to build something up.  Any farm animal can tear down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.  Be a carpenter in the lives of those around you.  Build where the Lord is building.  Work where the Lord is working.  "Except the Lord build the house, those who build labor in vain".
