History of Dickson Baptist Church
Dickson was founded on September 4, 1892 at the old Star school location by seven members dedicated to fulfilling God's calling. Originally the church was named The Baptist Church of Christ at Chaddick. The town of Chaddick changed its name to Dickson around 1904. In 1905, the church changed its name to the Baptist Church of Dickson. The post office in Dickson closed in 1906. Soon, the church began to grow and increase in numbers. Mrs. Henry Dodd donated over $300 of her own money to purchase the four acres at 2000 North Spencer Rd.
During the Great Depression, Dickson began to struggle and was only kept alive by five faithful women. In 1935, Dickson became a mission of Kelham Ave. Baptist Church, but June 30, 1940, Dickson again became an independent congregation with 70 charter members. The church grew under the leadership of several faithful men. Under the leadership of Harvey Albright, the church grew to over 600 in Sunday school. The new sanctuary was completed in 1954 and the new education building was completed in 1961.
On January 4th, 2024, Dickson sold the 2000 N. Spencer Road location to Freedom Worship Church and began meeting at a temporary location at New Community Church. On Easter Sunday 2024, Dickson began meeting at the 6920 E. Reno Location across the street from the old Heritage Mall location.
For over 125 years, Dickson has been sharing the gospel in our community. We are shining like a lamp in the darkness guiding others to the Light of Jesus Christ. Join us this Sunday because Dickson has "a place for you."
